Monroe Community College

The Challenge
Changes in student population and a wave of retirements among senior faculty had created a leadership vacuum at the largest division within the college.

The Solution
Partnering with the new chairperson of the division, Interpersonal Development created a strategic planning process designed to breathe new life in to the division. In phase one, assessment, Interpersonal Development conducted sensing interviews to bring to light the diversity of opinions and feelings around key issues. Results were analyzed and fed back to the faculty. In phase two, a steering committee, facilitated by Interpersonal Development, articulated the mission, vision and values from the interview results, which were presented to the faculty. The faculty were then assigned to small groups to identify the driving and restraining forces that effect the department moving towards its mission and vision. Armed with this data, in phase three the steering committee developed its strategic plan, which was subsequently adopted by the faculty.
